What is lens index?

Lens index is a number that describes how thick or thin your lenses are. The higher a lens' index is, the thinner it becomes. Higher prescriptions require higher index lenses, while lower prescriptions require lower index lenses. Typically, the index numbers usually include  1.50, 1.56, 1.59, 1.61, 1.67 and 1.74 index lenses.

Low-index lenses (around 1.50) are the thickest and most reasonably priced; high-index lenses (1.61 and above) are far lighter and thinner, providing a more fashionable and comfortable look. Known by another name, thin optics lenses, these can be an excellent option for anyone seeking thin optics readers or thin optics reading glasses.

What index should my glasses be?

When choosing a pair of eyeglasses, the lens index is very important. For a more beautiful and lightweight lens, we recommend a lens index of 1.57 or 1.59 for a lens with a power of 200 or more. For a lens with a power of 400 or more, a lens index of 1.61 is recommended. For a lens with a power of 600 or high-index prescription glasses, 1.67 high-index lenses are recommended. For a lens with a power of 800 or higher, 1.74 ultra-high index lenses are recommended.
